Woolbeeding Churchyard
It's almost as if this part of the village has been overseen by a formal garden designer. The approach to the church takes you through a churchyard that seems more like an exhibition garden at the Chelsea Flower Show than some of the churchyards in the Rother Valley.
Compare the formality of Woolbeding with the looseness of the church at Chithurst for example.
Both are charming, and fine places to visit, but in entirely different ways.
A reminder perhaps that the church has relied on a combination of power and mysticism to awe the people of Sussex into compliance over the last thousand years.
