WEST GRINSTEAD INFORMATION
The Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation of West Grinstead
Really interesting.Tells you all about the shrine, its history and the Caryll family who provided the financial firepower to allow the building of the outsized Roman Catholic Shrine Church in 1876.
There's a whole of stack of information about the history of the parish and neighbouring Dial Post, Partridge Green and Shipley too.
The website also has an interesting section about Hilaire Belloc and his time at neighbouring Shipley which we here at West Sussex.info heartily recommend. Belloc was one of the leading catholic voices in the period after the first world war and often addressed his faith in his work.
Belloc was burined at the Shrine in West Grinstead in 1953 and the Shrine's Tower was built in his memory.
West Grinstead Parish
The Church of England in West Grinstead has a fab website too, with details of forthcoming events in the village as well as details of church life both at St George's Church (above) and also at St Michael's Church in Partridge Green.
