6 great things to do this May Bank Holiday Weekend in West Sussex
It's May Bank Holiday weekend this coming weekend here in Sussex. Bank Holiday Monday falls on Monday 25th May this year.
If you're looking for some entertainment over the Bank Holiday, here are some things which caught my eye.
Family activities this Spring Bank Holiday
Harting Festivities take place in the beautiful village of South Harting on Bank Holiday Monday - as it has done for countless years (or at least years that are slightly tricky to count due to the various breaks in the event's long history). Harting Festivities runs from 11 in the morning to 4 in the afternoon and the Festivities promise a real cornucopia of entertainments. You can find out more about the fun on offer in the village here.If you fancy something a bit more serene, this is the time of year when Sussex's proud gardeners start to show off the fruits of their labours. There are plenty of gardens open this Bank Holiday weekend under the National Garden Scheme. Look out for garden openings at Gardeners Cottage at West Dean, Bakers House, Shipley; Shalford House at Kingsley Green; Sedgewick Park House near Horsham; Highdown Gardens at Goring; and Upwaltham Barns on the A285 between Chichester and Petworth at various points over the weekend. For more details see the NGS website.
The Spring Bank Holiday also sees the start of the Steyning Arts Trail, which takes you all over Steyning, Bramber and Upper Beeding, with 23 venues and around 60 artists submitting their work for your scrutiny. There's more info about the artists and trails here.
You might also be interested in the South of England Food and Drink Festival at Ardingly Showground. This takes place on Sunday 24th May. Details are here.
If you like the idea of a sunny day watching county cricket, Sussex take on Warwickshire at Hove in the county championship.
