Fontwell Park Races

Fontwell Park Racecourse may lack the glamour and reputation of its well-heeled neighbour, Goodwood, but it's a very popular venue for national hunt racing and draws a good crowd for most meetings.

Racing takes place throughout the year, and while the races may not be of the very highest quality, Fontwell is a good afternoon or evening out.

The racecourse itself is laid out in a figure of eight, which makes it unique among current UK racecourses and while the facilities may not be as plush as some of the richer courses, there's a good feeling about the place.

Fontwell Park is now owned and operated by Northern Racing, who also own Bath, Brighton, Chepstow, Great Yarmouth, Hereford, Newcastle, Sedgefield and Uttoxeter racecourses. Northern have done a great job of making the most of the facilities they have at Fontwell. The venue now hosts all sorts of concerts, car boot sales, corporate entertaining, conferences and parties.

Fontwell is well liked by racegoers and has won the Racegoers Club poll for Best Small Racecourse in the South East 17 years running. In Boxing they might have called that particular contest off by now.

Fontwell is also the home of the John Brooks designed Denmans Gardens which is well worth a detour on a sunny race day. It's within walking distance of the racecourse. Nearby Arundel is a great place for unusual shops and lunch too and is on the line London railway line.
