Tangmere was a famous Battle of Britain airfield and a logical choice for this fine aviation museum.The collection contains a Hurricane, 2 Spitfires (one an interesting prototype), a Lightning, a Hunter, a Sea Harrier, a Phantom and many more.
There are themed halls based around the Battle of Britain, Tangmere's important part in breaking the air speed record and the preservation of historic aircraft. Flight simulators and a range of other facilities contribute to a museum that is well worth visiting.
Gliding
Southdown Gliding Club
It's a weird feeling gliding - sometimes you're travelling so slowly that it seems you must stall.The Southdowns Gliding Club, which is based near Storrington offer trial lessons, for which you can buy a voucher online.
With the sea and the steep slopes of the South Downs closely there's plenty of updraughts and other currents. There's a lot of interesting information about gliding in general and the club in particular on the website and it's worth a read.
