Chichester Canal Basin looking south towards Hunston
The Canal Basin at Chichester has recently been given a facelift with smart new housing on its eastern bank. The Post Office sorting office on the northern bank is still fairly ugly, but Chichester Canal is becoming more attractive with each year that passes, thanks to intelligent restoration work by volunteers and a realisation that the canal is an important leisure amenity.
While it's possible to walk from the Canal Basin at Chichester all the way to Chichester Harbour along the canal towpath passing through Hunston, the canal is only navigable as far as Donnington, where the road to Selsey forms an unpassable obstacle.
