August Bank Holiday weekend in Sussex 2013
With the hot weather hopefully going to last for a while longer there are lots of great things going on in West Sussex over the August bank holiday period.
If you're looking for something to do over the Bank Holiday Weekend, here are some ideas.
What's going on in West Sussex over the bank holiday?
The Arundel Festival winds up over the Bank Holiday weekend. The Arundel Gallery Trail is particularly enjoyable - a great chance to see the work of scores of artists in the houses and shops of Arundel, as well as the town's disproportionately large number of galleries.Midhurst's Madhurst Festival takes place in the week ahead of the Bank Holiday. This relatively young festival includes poetry, music, dancing and, all in all, a very varied programme of events.
Graffham Village Fete is on Bank Holiday Monday if you fancy a more traditional Bank Holiday type event.
Even more redolent of times past is the Rudgwick Steam and Country Show over the weekend.
The Tulleys Farm Summer Maze is still in place - a great place to take the kids.
Worthing Rotary Carnival and Procession takes place on Bank Holiday Monday 26th August. The procession starts at Grand Avenue at 1.30pm before making its way along the seafront and there's a funfair all weekend too.
The Chichester International Film Festival continues over the Bank Holiday - it's all organised by the Chichester Cinema at New Park.
Selsey Festival continues over the bank holiday weekend too, ending on Bank Holiday Monday itself.
If you fancy a flutter, there's horse racing at Goodwood, including racing on Sunday 25th August, as well as Friday and Saturday.
If you like visiting gardens, National Garden Scheme gardens in West Sussex open at some point over the Bank Holiday Weekend include The Old Farmhouse at Rudgwick and Sussex Prairies at Henfield.
The Arundel Wetlands Centre is running activities for kids all week and over the Saturday and Sunday too.
If you love Sussex and its culture, Horsham Museum and Art Gallery has an interesting exhibition of paintings from called Drawn to the Heart of Sussex - you'll need to go on the Bank Holiday Saturday though, as the gallery is closed on Sundays.
